There are just too many exciting things going on outside in July. So when it gets hot, this nurse heads inside and surfs away. Here are a few of the interesting tidbits I've run into lately.
Enjoy wherever you are!
More Big Brother?
Someone is always talking about new accessibility tools in rehab. If you can't move a finger, there's a tool somewhere for you. Now, as these tools become more advanced, there are new issues. The next hacking frontier: your brain? (from www.cnn.com) talks about hacking and security for new neural tools.
Supporting nurses
As you know, a lot of nurses work to improve their practice by getting certified in their specialty. This article discusses the importance of support in nurse certification: Study Finds Work Satisfaction Tied to Certification Support (from www.nurse.com).
From the blogosphere...
I have to confess. I really love ImpactEDnurse. Those stories from the ED are just too funny. Here are a couple of my recent favorites:
What men really want in a hospital urinal
The well flocked swab
Maha at Call Bells Make Me Nervous has this great post about the q word (I'm not saying it!)
Psych Doc from Serenity Hospital has a great post about life in the clinic in Clinic Fun.

Nuggets for October 22
Yes, it's my day off and I'm again scouring the blogosphere for some good stuff. I've had a few people send me links to their blogs, so I'm adding those as I can, to share the link love. Check out the sidebar for some from the good ol' USA to Canada and even one from the Czech Republic about a nurse who snaps photos for fun while checking out nature.
In the MIA section
I'm also lamenting the loss of Podunk Memorial. Mielikki, where ever you are, I really enjoyed your blog. I wish you the best!
Terry at Counting Sheep sold www.everydaynurses.com, so I haven't seen anything from her in eons. Good luck Terry!
Here are a few things I found meandering today. Enjoy!
From the ER (ED, or whatever you choose to call it for the moment...)
Braden from 20 out of 10 has a great post on never events. Bayer may be right and the government may indeed be idiots if they buy this renaming thing. Why call it a never event if it can get renamed? Perhaps some funding in the way of adequate equipment and staffing from CMS might help. Naw...that would be too logical.
You can get more than you bargain for if you tagalong on a ER visit. CrassPollination has this great tagalong story you'll enjoy, even if you don't work in the ER.
From transplant city...
Donorcycle is one of my favorite transplant blogs to read. While there haven't been a ton of posts lately, I'd suspect she's busy. Some days are better than others according to this post. I really like the bird imagery, TC!
And finally, in the 'tis the season category...
Awake in Rochester has this great post about ghosts. My answer is yes....maybe not seen but have heard and felt some around me, and it wasn't even scary.

A few finds from the blogosphere and beyond...enjoy!
I found this photo link courtesy of Snotjockeys Revisited (a RT blog). You have to see it to believe it. It is one man's last message to the world, and it is very powerful.
Angrier Nurse weighs in on the cons of being sick after her own viral illness.
Dear Nurses is by Margaret Agard is back in business (following a vacation) and the latest installment is geared to all you new grads out there, so check it out: Clinical Settings Step By Step
One of my favorite med blogs is Radiology Picture of the Day. It may not be immediately useful as a nurse on the floor, but it's very interesting and includes a detailed explanation (thank you!) of what you're seeing.
Nurse Ratched's had a lot going on over on her blog lately, and most of it, I would not want, especially that homocidal patient. Thankfully, Mom stepped in and sent this item in a post called Email from Mother: The Banister of Life. NR, may you encounter few or no splinters!

Nuggets this week
Since I just mentioned a few of the interesting infractions noted in my latest State BON newsletter, I thought I'd point you in the direction of some interesting legal-oriented blog posts I've run across this week.
More nurses in trouble with the nursing board
A great post by Taralynn Mackay. Don't miss this if you live/work in Texas.
Will it anger the board if I have an attorney?
A great post from My 2 cents, a nurse attorney blog
On another note, here are some goodies from some other blogs.
Revenge is sweet (from highlytrainedmonkey)
Phone triage (from atyourcervix)
Professional Respect (from traumaqueen)

This week's Nuggets
I was going to wait to post these, but since I still hear the Wallace and Gromit music, I know I won't get a moment alone with my living room TV.
Here's the latest round that I enjoyed today. Go on over and visit these folks!
Here's the latest round that I enjoyed today. Go on over and visit these folks!
- At your cervix shouts out to my favorite non-nursing cubicle dweller
- Life, times and abuse in the ER at crasspollination
- Wanna know when it's a full moon? Ask the Navy guys here.
- Guys, don't let this happen to you (from traumaqueen)
- At home with Max and eternity rings (or I thought my husband was unlucky with lawn mowers until I read this!)

Nuggets from the blogosphere
I have a bunch of nursing blogs listed and I will from time to time pass along a few I've enjoyed reading. Check out the links on the side, and if you have a blog you'd like me to read, let me know.
Today's nuggets
aboutanurse talks about a family member's complaint of molestation that may choke you up, especially, if you've been playing with trachs lately, like me.
Mostly True Stories Trich or Treatment proves that soap operas aren't just on TV, but also a part of some folks real life. Note to you nursing students: although psych is fun, maternity may be more exciting than you think.
Musings of a Highly Trained Monkey sure made me think about my fitness program in this post.
