It all boils down to this
Life is short. We are seeing that in the news today. A celebrity and her mother die within days of each other. Some people say you can't die of a broken heart, but yet, some people do.
This year has flown by quickly. I'm happy that in the grand scheme of things, I've had some time to reflect and relax. It's a privilege not granted to everyone and I know it and cherish it, especially this week. There just aren't enough nurses at the Hotel, or anywhere really. Bedside nurses are a rare enough commodity in these parts, they are paying five figure bonuses to get to work in various institutions.
The mood of this country has been tentative and taxing. The elections didn't really help anything. When I heard about history and Hoover and trying times of the Depression my relatives talked about when I was a kid, I now think, "Wow! Some of this stuff is really happening here to us now."
A lot of things will end this year. New ones will begin next year. I'll work on what I can and do my best. Hope you enjoy the rest of this week and this year. May we all be here to discuss it all again in 2017. There are no promises but we can hope for the best.
See you next year.

If only I could say this...
I have had many therapeutic conversations with my friend, the Pharmacist out Yonder. We have always had some interesting stories from work.
As usual, she tops me again, even when I told her about her old neighbor's not-really-a-surprise-party-anymore surprise party my traveling partner's been planning. (Drat!)
She had to call a doctor recently to get a prior authorization for a certain antipsychotic med dose. She clarified the prescription, found out it needed the prior authorization, and called the insurance company.
The (not so) nice people at the insurance company gave her some information, but told her the MD had to call them back.
She calls the MD to explain the situation, and he says, "I'm not really in the mood to call the insurance company for that."
Really? I said. How can he NOT be in the mood?
I think I'd promptly be in the mood to find another doctor.
That is all...hope you enjoy your day wherever you are.

Heard on the unit
I love the random comments and compliments I hear right up at the front of the SU.
"You don't need anything? You mean you're going to do whatever it takes? Okay. If I can help you, I will". --TechnoWizard
If he/she only knew how many silk purses (as a nurse) I've been forced into, sometimes I feel like MacGyver. Do not leave any loose wire or chewing gum near me, or never complain, never explain might be more appropriate.
"Cool! You get all the good stuff." --Mr. X.
As I told TechnoWizard, I show all the geek patients the technology (no matter what it is) whenever it's in the SU. They enjoy the distraction.
"I'm getting paroled."--Mr. P.
Mr. P. says he sees people that look familiar from his days working the transit beat. Sometimes, he says the darnedest things.
"I'm sorry." --Dr. Snitty
This doctor is rarely apologetic about anything. It was nice to catch him/her in a good mood today.
