Or writing or whatever you have to do. WARNING: Rant ahead!
Nurse Jackie is loose on Showtime. Thank you MJ and Kim at emergiblog for discussing this.
Yes, the brain trusts of TV has unleashed a new "saint and sinner" portrayal of nurses, and it leaves an odor of the evening ritual of Hotel Rehab...which, to those uninitiated, is sh^t. Thank God I don't have Showtime (or watch much TV).
If you want to see the trailers and promos for yourself, check out the link above.
If you're really perturbed, send your nastygrams in bulk (recruit your friends, etc.--cut, paste and steal these addresses...) to the folks below. They're ultimately responsible for this product...and if that doesn't work, share your anger with the advertisers on the show, by boycotting their products.
Are you listening, Showtime? Hint, hint: pissing off a couple of million (that's right...MILLIONS) nurses is NOT a good thing for you or your network.

Ladies - it's a TV SHOW! LIGHTEN UP!!! As an Italian American I somehow managed to conjure up the intellectual capacity to understand that The Sopranos was not about REAL LIFE, and as a nurse, I am able to apply the very same principal to this new show - THAT IT'S MERELY ENTERTAINMENT - and look forward to sitting back and enjoying the MADE-UP antics of Nurse Jackie... Hello ---- it's HOLLYWOOD people!
Stop taking yourselves so seriously and the show so personally - give the American public a little credit and allow for the possibility that maybe they're intelligent enough to figure out on their own that the show is not about REAL NURSES!!! Just as Six Feet Under was not about REAL Funeral Directors and United States of Tara is not about REAL Multiple Personality Disorder! I'm sure you all can find something more worthwhile to expend your valuable energy on. SHEESH!!!!
Mr. Anonymous:
Rule 1: It's my blog, and I'll blog about what I want to. You'll see a wide variety of stuff here. I could delete your comment, but, hey it's a free country and some of your points are actually valid.
Secondly, I'm part Italian-American myself, but you'd never know from looking.
Nurses do take themselves seriously when parodied in the public eye. Nurse Jackie is a parody. It's not even an attempt at a realistic snapshot of a nurse, because if a real nurse did what she does, her ER ass would get fired, and/or arrested once found out.
Nobody's perfect, but this show is highlighting character flaws of a few to the detriment of many.
It's a damn shame. And as a few other bloggers have mentioned out there...are there any nurses actually working as consultants for this show? It doesn't seem like it, because a good chunk of that trailer would not exist.
I take pride that I work in one of the most trusted occupations in the US. Don't throw sh&t and expect me to stand still and watch.
Finally, I am expending worthwhile energy every day...I am a floor nurse, which means I work odd shifts and clean butts for a living...and I do a damn good job at it.
