Not just nice

Sometimes, it's necessary. Introducing yourself to the specialist who may be visiting your unit is not just a common (really uncommon) courtesy, it's important. Especially to your patient who needs him/her and his/her expertise.

Thank you Suzanne Gordon for reminding us of this very important fact.

Remember, look up and introduce yourself. Your patient is worth it (and so are you)!

Stay tuned.

If you're nice, they'll call you back

Ah, the fun times today discussing how nurses and pharmacists have fun talking to patients and customers.

Yes, it is really true.

And for all of you certified RNs out there, Happy Certified Nurses' Day. You go the extra mile and you rock.

From one certified nurse to another, I raise my glass...cheers!

Friday the 13th

It's come and gone.

A little fire, a little ice, a lot of interesting stuff. How many fire alarms did we have today? I have no idea because I stopped counting after the first four. Old buildings are interesting.

I just wish the doc who was in my meeting hadn't fallen asleep with boredom. Dad (the chief of his section) made no efforts to keep him awake. I was the bad nurse, as I commented when he went by, "Hope I didn't disturb your nap too much." Like an insolent child, he glared at me. I really wanted to say, "I have lots of practice with a little kid." but I was nice.

It wasn't all bad, though. My husband even got me lunch today on his day off. I worked with some really nice patients. I felt like I got things done.

The day ended, and it was beautiful outside. It was worth the wait.

Enjoy your weekend, wherever you are!

Mixin' it up...

Sometimes I am nice. I return calls, I do favors for my friends on the floor. I walk back to the unit from the SU with patients who are going that way, and their transporter's not there.

In fact, I'm getting used to the temporary office, and the fact, that I'm allowed to wander around to do my job. Yes, with stuff here, there and everywhere, I am getting my exercise walking. I need to walk anyway, since I sit for longer periods than I ever did while I was caring for people on the floor.

But if you try to tell me you're going to make me take less time doing my job to make you happy, Big Boss, I'm going to tell you the truth. You, nor your providers will get reimbursed for me or that SU work you're volunteering me for 'cause it ain't codeable. (Thank you coders and Ms. SU Guru for teaching me all the magic words to say about provider workload.)

I am here for the SU patients, you know, the rehabbers you wanted me especially for in the first place.

And if you think you're gonna mess with my people (even indirectly), you're gonna have to deal with me: She who will not be cowed.'Cause all these other coders and assorted folks who get you money are banking on me.

Any questions? I didn't think so...
