I really enjoyed this story about a lady winning the lottery by playing her fortune cookie numbers. The odds may be slim, but at least, they were in her favor for one draw.
The randomness of life hit me when I watched the news today and saw a familiar face. My BLS instructor, a big burly fireman, who taught at the community college here in RehabLand, was killed in a drunk driving accident. A woman was charged today.
He wasn't wearing his seatbelt while off-duty. The same guy who stressed how "seconds count", was himself gone in an instant.
Just makes me want to live this randomness to the fullest.
Because you just never know when your lotto numbers will win, or when someone you love won't be around.
Stay tuned...

I'm on fire!
The engine fired on all (most) of the cylinders, literally and figuratively. Lots of stuff done today.
I didn't win the lottery, but darn it, I was on fire...like the song says "starburst into the sky".
For Monday, I'll take it!

This week's In the news
I've got a personal connection to some of the items I've found this week. Hope you all enjoy
I knew it!
Ever have horrible migraines when it's ready to storm? You're not alone. Researchers have correlated migraines to all sorts of things, including lightning strikes, according to this CNN story.
Sad story
A teenager gets an elective surgery to stop sleep apnea and some other things, then ends up brain dead, according to this CNN story. It may be simple, but as a parent, so sad.
Throwing your money away?
You may be if you believe this Medscape article on multivitamins and cognition.
Were you hoodwinked?
Maybe once or twice? Mashable tallies up these social media hoaxes which got a lot of mileage this year.
Finally...
And last, but not least, just in case I win the Mega Millions prize (even a sliver of it) tonight, I may play hooky tomorrow from work, but I just want to let you know I won't stop blogging. It's too much fun.
That is all...more to come.

More fun with Sunday Stealing
Here's this week's meme: Random Randomness part 3. I omitted the ones I don't like, so go on over and see for yourselves.
1) What room are you in?
The kitchen
2) Can you solve a rubix cube?
No.
3) Are you psychic in any way?
Not exactly. Have I had some seriously funky dreams and premonitions? Yes.
5) What's your favorite color?
Blue
6) What's your lucky number?
7
7) Do you have any chores that should be done now?
Laundry (just finishing right now).
8) Did you have a cherished childhood teddy bear or other toy?
Several, but they got worn out or destroyed when my brother put them outside.
9) What was the last thing you bought from a vending machine?
Soda
11) How many pairs of shoes do you own?
Too many.
13) If you were a super hero what powers would you have?
I like the cloak of invisibility, time travel and teleporting.
17) What would you do if you won the lottery?
Depends on how much money I won. Anything under $10 million, keep on working until my financial adviser and I get a plan together.
Over $10 million, I'm so out of there tomorrow (sorry Hotel folks: no offense, it's not you). Then I would take a round the world trip over the course of three months, then decide what I want to do with myself before my one year anniversary.
I would enjoy being retired so I could spend more time working with the charities I like to support now volunteering. One of my coworkers had an idea to work with rehab patients I'd like to explore in more detail.
18) Would you like to build/design your own house?
Yes, wanna see the plans? Sorry, they're still in my head, but include a backup power supply and lots of energy efficient things, HEPA filtration, and a whole house vacuum system. (That's why I'd need to win the lottery!)
19) Which form of public transport do you prefer?
Streetcar.
21) Can you juggle?
Literally, yes (about three things); figuratively, all the time.

Fantasy becomes reality
Lots of good and potentially not so good stuff going on today, so some fantasies readily become reality and some we wish would just go away.
First, one of our patients who was very depressed during his/her stay came to us in a very good mood. Said patient has a goal--to go hunting this fall. All patient needs is a letter from us so patient can get a special permit from our nearby state to participate in a special program. We wished patient well and hopefully, this fall, we'll see some venison sausage and lots of smiles. If only we could convince more of our patients to participate in the Wheelchair Games!
Second, lots of things were discussed recently with our team, which includes the nurses. One of the worst patients the place has ever seen may be returning to the unit. Said patient is so abusive and mean to staff that some long-serving nurses have threatened to quit if said patient is brought back. It's all about policy and paperwork, so we'll see what happens.
Third, my patient who's been wanting to get out of bed for days got his wish. His bowel problems resolved enough that I was able to get him out of bed for his allotted hours. He went to therapy and worked his arms so much he was tired by the time he got back, so I put him to bed.
Finally, our facility is cutting more costs. Our own "Chainsaw Al" is willing to burn and pillage to make a name. We can only wait to see what happens next, as I pretty much kiss any hope of anything extra for school or certification goodbye.
Maybe that lottery fantasy comes true, so while I wait, I'm still filling out scholarship forms. It's a long shot, but at least, most scholarships have better odds than the lottery.
More later...
