Yes, it's all sports around here all the time at the RehabRN ranch, but the boys (Dahey and Bubba) are really getting into the World Cup of soccer.
You can't really blame them, though. That Ghana vs. USA game started with a bang.
That is all...back to the latest game.
Hope you enjoy your week wherever you are.

Bonding with Bubba
Oh, the fun and excitement of living with a tween boy who is spring break staycationing.
1. Bubba thinks he's immune to taking baths or showers (and he loves swimming). I'm reminding him that he really does need to clean the cracks and crevices more than he does.
2. Since Dahey had to work, I took him to soccer. His team lost. He was sad. Dahey got updates via text and phone, though. The team got lots of shots, but nothing would go into the goal.
3. We took my sister out to lunch. Both of them are never happier than in an eating establishment. No one is ever bored with food around.
4. Movies are on the agenda, but since it was later in the day when we got home, I decided to hold off on seeing Mr. Peabody and Sherman, but we had to get Thor.
I was so tired from my crazy week, I promptly feel asleep during most of the movie.
Ah, togetherness...

Your sense of smell
Some things just stink. Your favorite team doesn't win a football, baseball or soccer game.
However these recent news stories had me wondering where the bad odors could be coming from.
Think the litter box needs emptying? Maybe it's just your laptop according to Dell. (courtesy of the BBC)
Can the smell of the famous "rooster sauce" (aka sriracha) cause headaches? Some people think so. (from the LA Times).
And you thought things were rough listening to Grandma's Lawrence Welk. Those darned Somali pirates can't handle this woman's music. (from www.military.com --thanks to my astute active duty brother-in-law).
Enjoy! More to come...

Nuggets for May 15
The Ides of May...whoops, wrong month.
Yes, it's May 15, and a hot one here indeed in RehabLand. Here are a few of the news stories I've encountered during my drive time and surfing around on the internet this week.
The shoes make the man (or woman)
If you are a soccer player, you may want to pay attention when you purchase shoes according to this recent article in the New York Times, entitled Sports injuries and athletic shoes.
Something you just don't want (or what I heard on the drive today)
West Nile virus was very deadly in 2012, and the bug folks are predicting a banner year here in RehabLand, due to the weather conditions.
iPhone secret features
More than a few goodies I didn't know about here at appstorm, so if you own an iPhone, check it out.
Budget travel tips
Since Dahey and Bubba think we've won the lottery sometimes when we're on vacation, here are a few money-saving tips from MoneyNing for those vacations you may be taking this summer (assuming your boss will let you go).

The things you learn with children
My child, Bubba, is a character. He's spent his afternoon after soccer, singing around the house: church songs, and even Adele.
He's also having a grand old time trolling the internet on the iPad we got recently. (I won it at MegaConference). When he wasn't busy playing a map game of the NCAA tournament, he was checking YouTube and looking at videos of other kids.
He also learned about genetic diseases when he happened upon a video of a kid with a rare skin disease. We looked it up and found out that is now survivable. He was most impressed that the little girl we saw doesn't live too far from RehabLand.
Now it's a golfing math game, so he wanders to and fro, but when supervised, he has fun and learns something, too.
More to come...spring break is still young.

So glad Friday is over...
You know you'll be saying, "TGIF" when...
1. You finally get your husband prepped and ready for a colonoscopy. After a year of cajoling, coaxing, and finally just scheduling an appointment with the GI, Dahey got his done and survived with only one little polyp. He'll get the results of the biopsy next week sometime.
2. While you're in the waiting room at the GI lab you get a call that another relative just might have to be hospitalized...again. (Said relative was just discharged Tuesday).
Glad it's your readmit rate and not mine! So much for effective communication.
3. You take Bubba to the soccer game, he plays goal, and you cringe every time he dives head first for the ball. Yes, the emergency room is close, but I'd like to keep my copay, thank you very much!
Now, to enjoy the weekend, since everyone's survived so far.

A little coincidence here...
A little bit there could be construed as a little more than coincidence.
What a wild weekend! I escaped from the Hotel, so it's been fun working on the final paper of the semester. The coincidence: when your instructor is also a film maker who made a movie about an area where more than a few of your patients are from. I only got to see the trailer, but it was eye-opening to see the remoteness of the area.
Bubba had a party and the kids had a good time playing soccer until the rain came. At least, no tornadoes came with it.
Who knows what the week will bring. Just hoping it's not a ton of admissions.
Stay tuned.
