Bubba was out of school. On the same day he became a teenager. Alone in a house with cupcakes, which made for some interesting text message conversations, complete with photos.
Alas, since nurses don't get snow days or much downtime (most of us, anyway), I went to work. It was quiet. By 0800, when the clinics are busiest, we barely had two people show up. Thank you RehabLand Snow Removal folks. You cleaned, but people forget how to drive when temperatures are low and the pavement refreezes. Slip and slide accidents were everywhere.
I kept busy. I had a few folks who couldn't come in call me, so I helped them with what I could over the phone. I stocked my rooms, I visited patients in their rooms. I did training, since it's that time of year for competency renewal.
After lunch, we started seeing more people in the Hotel. It never got to the usual levels, but a little variation in our routine was nice.
Hope you have time to breathe (and maybe even think) in your day today, wherever you are.
More later.

Vacation: the inevitable
It's not close, but vacation will end. I know it. I still have a ton of things to do. Even if I were off for a month, I'm sure I'd harbor some regret for what didn't get done around the house, but I'm doing my best.
I continue to work on getting the outdoor work done: packing up yard waste for pickup, cutting down and mowing stuff. I haven't mowed in years, and yes, I have the mosquito bites to prove it (despite everything, they love me).
Bubba decided he really didn't want to go to the CityPark pool again with camp, so since he crashed into another kid yesterday and got a huge bump on his head, I decided to keep him home. The camp forced me: they called in panic mode yesterday and made me pick him up. It worked out well that I told Dahey where I was going, because they called him at work when I didn't answer and he had to find me at the movie theatre where I was trying to be a grown up and watching a grown up movie (Amy, the documentary on Amy Winehouse). Luckily, there weren't too many other folks around (and I was able to get a voucher to come again).
Since Bubba was on sick leave, and I'm on vacation, we went on a placid stroll in town at the gardens, then we went to lunch and had cupcakes. He even went to a local house featured on Ghost Adventures. Thankfully, he was sufficiently scared by some of the stuff he saw for sale in the gift shop, that we won't be going back.
Now, I just have to take him to a boy movie (Ant Man) instead of Dahey. We're going to an interesting old theatre, and this time, I'll make sure to leave the phone on vibrate, just in case.
Stay tuned.

Siege, day 2
True discipline is really just self-remembering; no forcing or fighting is necessary.~ Charles Eisenstein
Okay, it's not really a siege. I often worry about that when the safety guy drills us on the phone-in bomb threat (yes, apparently they still do that, even with Caller-ID) or the shooter who walks in the lobby.
The siege is happening every time I walk into the kitchen. Over to the cafeteria. Out in the mall.
Yes, dear friends, due to liberal imbibing of those fine Hefeweizens, and all those yummy cupcakes, I'm now on a diet.
I have just decided that I should have never let that nursing school flab (and brownie habit) come back.
Coping with stress with food when you have a job where you sit a lot more than you used to, is not a very good thing.
My goal is not impossible, but it sure seems that way when I look at dark chocolate or ice cream.
Stay tuned.

The first day of Spring
Yes, it's spring on the calendar, but you can't tell in RehabLand. It's freezing!
I went to the allergist for the first time in a LONG time. (my personal rite of spring). Discovered that I really do need to change up my meds so I can be less stuffy, or at least have a less stuffy nose.
Even though it was cold, I stood outside waiting by PrivateU to get lunch from a food truck. Not just any food truck but an exceptional Asian fusion one. To top it off, a pink cupcake truck was parked nearby.
Life really is sweet...and lunch was surely wonderful today.
Stay tuned...more to come.
