Friday I felt as if I was trapped in a Dilbert cartoon. Dealing with Dahey's issues with the new employer and dealing with our big boss made me want to run, run, run far away.
So far, the weekend has been nice. The rain and steamy heat are quieting down for a little while. I visited my sister and we enjoyed the lack of rain and stuffiness.
Now, I am doing more research. It's almost time to turn in my homework, (slides) for the next presentation.
Better get back to work...stay tuned.

The missing piece
Dear Social Studies Teacher:
I'm so glad I spent a lot of time dealing with this country in my other life. I've been there several times and visited just about every provincial capital. I can tell you all sorts of things and can answer 90% of the questions on this assignment with my eyes closed and one hand behind my back.
However there is no way I can help Bubba identify weather patterns on Map B and C if said maps are not included with the rest of the worksheets.
I may have a pretty good memory for trivia, but no idea on weather maps.
Please send them home and Bubba will complete them tomorrow.
Sincerely yours,
RehabRN

Homework
Bubba's been getting homework after I decided to go online and find some reading materials appropriate for his situation.
Here are a couple of the ones I picked:
They are entertaining, and only time will tell if they really stick. Gotta start somewhere.
Here are a couple of the ones I picked:
- Dude, That's Rude (Get some manners) by Pamela Espeland & Elizabeth Verdick
- Speak and Get Along! Learn the Mighty Might, Thought Chop and More tools to make friends, stop teasing and feel good about yourself by Scott Cooper

Sadness
Back to school is full of newness and possibilities. Lots of kids with new clothes, school supplies, and meeting new friends. The school year shouldn't have kids getting shot. Kids trying to do better than their best while doing their homework.
It's just not right. We must stop killing each other.

Just another Monday
Still Nurses' Week..YES! The psychology staff are celebrating on Florence Nightingale's birthday at the Hotel, but they have to send an e-mail every day so people don't forget.
I celebrated today by having lots of technical difficulties in my clinic. Now I have to find a creative way to get a gift basket of coffee, Mountain Dew, chocolate and other terribly fattening things to my favorite support technicians. Yes, it's been that kind of week and this is only Monday. We have a "special notes" section of our intranet, so I recognized two of the folks today. I had to...those two saved my derriere so much already.
Bubba got out of school early today and is counting the days when school ends here in RehabLand. Since his school had no snow days (we had a school boss from Minnesota who wasn't scared one icy day) this year, they'll actually finish on the day they said. Bubba, however, may notice those last days are different. For the first time ever, he has final exams. Should get him ready for high school!
Now Bubba is at his friend Jorge's house, helping him get some of the music homework done before the big party this week at the last band class. If Jorge gets the magic number, he'll be in. Bubba, his partner in crime, wants to provide moral support so it happens.
Stay tuned...one more day of Nurses' Week left. Enjoy every moment. You deserve it!

I survived!
My stint as an adjunct instructor at MegaCorp College is over. Hooray!
What did I learn?
1. Some people are just not motivated.
2. Some people don't really listen. I only told my students (orally and in writing) that all the written homework was due the day before the final.
I still had one goof say, "What? We can't turn in any homework tonight?"
Yes, Doofus, that's right. Working on your schedule at Taco Bell instead of finishing your uncompleted work was really not a good thing. Miraculously, he passed the course...with a whopping D.
3. Flunking students is not fun, but sometimes you have to do it. I had to flunk the one student in my course who would like to go on to the nursing program.
As Dahey says, if she can't hack it now, maybe she should be doing something else.

The perils of the modern student
I thought it was dangerous NOT to bring a notebook and pen to class when I went to PrivateU. Most of the time we got handouts of every professor's PowerPoint presentation.
One day, the copier broke. You'd have thought the world ended with some of the kids (yes, because they were much younger than me) went into hysterics."Go to the computer room and ask them if you can borrow some paper." I said. (I had my own and a laptop to take notes.)
After several students were peeled off the lecture hall ceiling, they got their wits and got the paper.
So tonight as I'm going through my homework for the latest class, I realize that I bought two e-books this semester because I waited too long to order the real ones.
Well, how on earth do you reference your citations in perfect APA format if you don't have page numbers? Thanks to my dear Google (aka the lifesaver) I found the answer. Yes, people, the APA folks have known about this for years already.
Welcome to the 21st century, RehabRN. I like my e-books. They are a lot lighter than the real ones!
That is all...back to homework. Enjoy your weekend no matter where you are.

Time to wake the lion...
Er, kid, I mean.
It is daylight longer so Mr. Bubba thinks it's fine and dandy to stay up goofing off as long as possible, since "my homework is done, and it's not dark yet."
Now, we have to get up for school (I love being the drop off queen for the neighborhood). Agony.
Stay tuned. The drama of statewide standardized testing starts soon!

Children and homework
Nothing like the 11th hour to get everything done before the end of the grading period.
Dahey thought he had Bubba reading everything he needed, and alas, Bubba has failed all his reading tests.
FML for me...ugh!
Taking a break and getting ready for work tomorrow...

One more day
One more day to get ready for the conference.
One more day to read and look at my homework before I take off.
One more day to refine and check my position paper...ugh!
One more day of work and getting everything ready so Dahey, Bubba and WildDog survive without me while I'm gone.

Just don't wanna...
I'm not in the mood to do homework.
Today is almost my Friday. To celebrate Bubba's spring break, I'm taking off part of it to have at least one small family get together and a long weekend.
One of these days my boss will figure out that 1) I don't work on the floor anymore, 2) he/she doesn't have to replace me with floor staff when I'm off (I do my own replacements, thanks) and consequently, 3) I ought to be able to take off when I want to do so AND I have coverage.
More to come...it's always something new and exciting every day.

Homework
In the house, in the office, in the laundry room. You name it, I've got all sorts of homework: the housework kind as well as the school kind.
Assignment #1 due next week. I think the weekend will be busy...
More to come...if I survive the onslaught.

Between day and night
Maturity is achieved when a person accepts life as full of tension. ~Joshua L. Liebman
That was my story recently. I had to work a shift I don't normally work and it messed me up. I'm used to the rhythms of the unit and at that hour, I was thoroughly confused.
Prioritizing everything was crazy, especially when one of your patients decides to be sick near the end of the shift. Thankfully, I had help in getting things done. I would have never made it without the crew and a few others jumping in as their shift was just starting.
Now I'm still stressed, but progressing. Family visiting from out-of-town means I'm busy cleaning, being soccer mom, being an innkeeper, providing entertainment, on top of it all finishing my semester of grad school.
One of these days, all the events will be over and I'll wonder what happened.
When is my next vacation? Not soon enough! Stay tuned....

Knee deep in the hoopla
Yes, was thinking of those very lines today as I was working....
Got my last huge project (only a little bitty one left) done for my grad class today after much work, rework, and re-rework. Amen!
So, I found a great meme for you all to check out at Sunday Stealing. It's an older one, but my kind of meme since it's short and sweet. Will post my own results when I take a break later today or tomorrow.

Writing, writing, writing
Yes, I'm doing homework. Theories are the name of the game this week and boy, are they dry!
When I'm not working on homework, I got notice recently that I will have another poem published in PublicU's arts journal. Should be interesting to see if any other nursing students were selected. Last year, I was the lone nursing student/nurse to be selected.
Back to writing! Must keep going before work!
