Winter in RehabLand

If deep cold wasn't enough, we got a reprieve. The last two days have been above freezing (32F). Now the weather people are predicting freezing rain.I don't care. I have everything stocked up and gassed up the car. From the looks of the stores, it was mild panic.

Just let the light and heat stay on and I'm good.

Do your thing, Mother Nature. I hope I'm ready. If not, I'll just keep reading all this interesting stuff while I wait.

It's HOT!

Dear Summer:

I know it's not Labor Day yet, and the kids are back in school, but this 100+ degree temperature thing needs to go.

I finally got used to not freezing to death at the Hotel. Now my space is so cold I have to either 1) talk to patients in the hallway, if it's possible or 2) turn the air off and sweat while I talk to patients.

All this stuff about designing rooms for patients is nice, but once in a while, couldn't we get a universal design that works for EVERYONE?

I know I'll be waiting for the remodeling (that may never come) in my end of the Hotel. Here's hoping the HVAC folks can get it right.

Snow again

I'm really going to appreciate spring and summer this year.

I never thought I'd see the day when I thought freezing (32F) was warm.

Ugh!

Brrr!

It's freaking cold as one of my young hip patients says. This is the same guy who was rolling around in a very huge jacket and asked me if he had any wrinkles.

"No," I told him, "No wrinkles, but are you doing the gangsta look?" (He likes to look hip, even if he is in a wheelchair.

Hipster Dude of course said no. He did have a good chuckle, though.

The snow and sleet are sticking around since it won't get above freezing for a few days.

The joys of winter...

Ah, snow!

It's coming. From the way the weather folks at the local RehabLand television stations put it, we're looking at potential snowmaggedon.

This is always fun at the Hotel. Patients don't come in for our outpatient clinics, and they miss tests. Inpatients get grumpy when their relatives can't come into visit. Thankfully, the grounds of the Hotel are cleaner than any roads in the area.

Nursing staff loves snow because it usually means you get to work overtime, since some of your coworkers never ever make it to work.

We do have something to look forward to...none of this should last. The temperatures will be above freezing by the weekend.

And the snow will go, go, go...stay tuned.

Yes, the Arctic blast is back again. I just may have to try some of those tricks I saw on TV.

1. Counting how fast a pot of boiling water freezes when left outside.
2. Throwing a cup of hot water into the air and turning it into vapor.

And yes, at the Hotel, the heating system is crazy. In a couple of rooms, we need some tropical foliage and sand, so we can say we're at the beach.

Or one of our case managers can just put a sign on her door that says "Sauna", since her office temps never go below 90.
