Hope you are enjoying your day. It's cold, cloudy, and snowing today the first day of Spring.
Mother Nature is surely a jokester.
That is all...more later.

Tired
I haven't been shoveling snow like some of my friends on the East Coast, but the exercise routine is certainly guaranteeing that I sleep soundly at night.
In addition to that, I'm working on a few other projects at work. I have to see if the tests work. If they do, we will certainly have a great way to get things done and get our patients the care they need at home.
Looking forward to every day, even if I feel craggy and tired.
Stay tuned...

And if cold weren't enough...
Now we have snow too. Thankfully, it's light, fluffy, and can be swept away easily with a broom.
I can't wait to go to work on a day like today. This is when I really wish I could telework. Somehow, I don't think we'll have too many people go AMA today.
Off to warm up the car and remove my own personal icicles.
More to come.

Snow has arrived
Yes, it's powdery and pretty here in RehabLand. Bubba was busy looking for his sled, which he soon discovered is not working anymore. After seven years, it's time to get another one.
It does keep him busy though. He likes to move snow around. Move the snow off the cars, onto the ground, then into the grass with the broom. We will see how successful he really was.
With the polar vortex in the neighborhood, we are awaiting record cold for this part of the year this week. I'm so glad I bought Bubba new snow boots when I saw them. He hasn't needed them this early in a very long time.
Now to get ready for the week...stay tuned.

Oh Polar Vortex!
Yes, it's not quite winter, but you'd never know it from the chill that's descended on RehabLand. Bubba played in a tournament for school and Dahey got some new glasses ordered after much cajoling.
Now, today it's snow.
I'm so glad I'm off tomorrow. I'd really like to just hide under the covers.

Lazy Sunday
Bubba and Dahey are already watching the Olympics and British football. If we had multiple TVs in the living room, it would look like a sports bar.
My DVD player is finally working, so I'm filling iTunes up again. For exercise, I'm jumping up every time the timer goes off on the dryer (what nurse DOESN'T multitask at home?).
Sunday Stealing is about Valentine's Day (coming up on Friday). Want to answer the meme? Head on over...
Pondering the week to come...will be a crazy busy one. Hope we don't get any more snow to mess things up.

Snow again
I'm really going to appreciate spring and summer this year.
I never thought I'd see the day when I thought freezing (32F) was warm.
Ugh!

One fun thing after another...
First, we had the annual inspection. It's nice that these folks care to visit, but suggesting things we don't really need is not going to fix anything. We have two perfectly smart BSNs who can act as case managers, thankyouverymuch, even if one (conveniently) forgets how many visits are done in the clinic yearly.
Get us what we ask for...not c$%p we don't want. Like enough nursing staff. You know...those 24/7 folks who make the place run. Yes, they are handy.
Next, it started snowing in the afternoon. And snowing, and snowing some more. Luckily, my driving skills in the newish family wagon are getting better as I'm getting used to traction control.
Finally, I capped off the night by going to the dentist. Thankfully, no cavities and no slipping or sliding on the icy roads.
Stay tuned...more to come.

Deja vu all over again
No school due to a snow day. Supposedly, they'll take them back tomorrow. Some parents kvetch on the school's Facebook page. Others, like me, rejoice.
Bubba needs to learn something. The school year is flying by so fast.
On top of all of it, another great relative has died. This one was special. Before he married into the family, he was the doctor for most of the folks in town. He even delivered some of Great Aunt Marion's kids (when she was married to dear departed old Uncle Gilbert, the guy who threw some great parties, known for their food). Dahey was their wedding photographer.
The day he died would have been their 12th wedding anniversary.

If you plow it...
Dear Maintenance:
People will want to come to work, since they won't slip on ice in the parking lot.
Some of us can't wait until next week when it warms up, since we have patients to take care of now. And most of them don't need to be traipsing over all that snow and ice, either.
That is all.
Yours sincerely,
RehahRN

Snowmaggedon
Dear Local News People:
Yes, the snow has arrived. Thank goodness all the utilities work here at the homestead.
I just wish you all would stop acting crazy, as if you've never seen snow. It does snow here on a regular basis. Snow really is part of winter, folks.
While it is snowing, I will wait for it to stop until I go out to shovel the driveway again. Because if I don't, I will have to flag down that nice cop who stopped by the house and ask for a ride to work at the Hotel.
Unless, of course, all the Manglement have stayed home.
Now I'm starting happy hour early, so I'm going to have some more of that wine I put in my boeuf bourguignon today.
Salut!
Yours truly,
RehabRN

Brrr!
It's freaking cold as one of my young hip patients says. This is the same guy who was rolling around in a very huge jacket and asked me if he had any wrinkles.
"No," I told him, "No wrinkles, but are you doing the gangsta look?" (He likes to look hip, even if he is in a wheelchair.
Hipster Dude of course said no. He did have a good chuckle, though.
The snow and sleet are sticking around since it won't get above freezing for a few days.
The joys of winter...

TGMG (Thank goodness Monday's nearly Gone)
Every day begins with an act of courage and hope: getting
out of bed.~ Mason Cooley
Yes, it was courageous in RehabLand today because it's cold again. I am happy it was not as cold as Sunday, or that my sister-in-law's holiday wish (snow) did not come true. Bubba needs to go to school as long as possible.
I worked on a lot of weird stuff because I may be relocating soon due to construction. Our business manager returned from medical leave recently, so I'm hoping the construction manager will give her information on when that might take place.
I just love being in limbo.
Stay tuned...

TGIF
So happy I got my job forecasts, policies, procedures, narratives, spreadsheets and diagrams taken care of for our next inspection.
And, ding dong, the witch is dead. Joint Commission closed out today. We passed (hooray!) We'll never have floors this clean again.
One more inspection left this year...right before the holidays.
How many days until Christmas vacation? I'll be counting for sure...

Dear Mother Nature
Okay, I have to tolerate the full moon every month.
Please cut out all this rain and snow. Yes, it is almost May and it's NOT supposed to snow here in RehabLand.
Besides, I'm getting tired of my backyard flooding and WildDog refusing to go outside since the porch is damp.
And on top of this, the smokers at work are grumpy as hell. I have enough to deal with this week.
Sincerely not,
RehabRN

Really spring?
Yes, we're having a snowstorm in RehabLand. Who could think of a better way for us to appreciate spring when it gets here? (Those crazy meteorologists.) Anywho...here are a few goodies I ran into once I got off the slick roads and out of the grocery store today. (I had to get my triple coupons!)
Since the groundhog predictions of an early spring are off, some litigious folks in Ohio want to get Phil. Thank you BBC for being on the mark for this important story.
Grumpy has a weekend rerun ALL nurses will enjoy. Thanks for thinking of us Grumpy. I'd stash you a Diet Coke, anytime!
Yet another problem: how to tell if the new iPad you just bought is really in the box. Hard to believe this could have happened at a major retailer, but if it's worth something, people will try to steal it.

Wild, wooly, and can we join you
Wild would have been an appropriate description of part of my day. One of the patients grabbed a trapeze and threw himself into his bed a la Tarzan. All I had to do was maneuver the feet and park the wheelchair.
Wooly described the outerwear I was wearing. Damp and dreary, but I'm not complaining. A few of our folks at the Hotel hail from areas being blanketed by the latest round of snow. In a couple of towns, they've had so much snow in the last week that roofs are collapsing.
And while the first round of inspectors came and quizzed us, our program was one of the stars of the show here at Hotel Rehab. They love the SU work. They want more of it.
Now just give us what we need: a backup so if I ever win that lottery, someone has a clue as to what is going on.
It would be nice! So so nice! A nurse can dream...stay tuned.

Still waiting
Snowmaggedon is on hold. Not a flake in the sky, but all the schools are closed. Let's see what the day brings.
Wednesday, February 20, 2013
Ah, snow!
It's coming. From the way the weather folks at the local RehabLand television stations put it, we're looking at potential snowmaggedon.
This is always fun at the Hotel. Patients don't come in for our outpatient clinics, and they miss tests. Inpatients get grumpy when their relatives can't come into visit. Thankfully, the grounds of the Hotel are cleaner than any roads in the area.
Nursing staff loves snow because it usually means you get to work overtime, since some of your coworkers never ever make it to work.
We do have something to look forward to...none of this should last. The temperatures will be above freezing by the weekend.
And the snow will go, go, go...stay tuned.

Somedays, I wonder...
Dear Clerk:
Yes, indeed, it is 15 minutes before your day should end and I'm not too impressed that you decided to leave early. There was only a slight dusting (literally, not even an inch) of snow on the ground.
And yes, your cohort really thought I was causing trouble when I asked her to do your job, even when she's supposed to fill in for you when you leave. You are two peas in a pod: Dumb and Dumber, Lazy and Lazier, etc.
I particularly loved it when Clerk #2 called her Clerical lead, then the lead told me I didn't know what I was doing and I'd have to go ask the department IT liaison to fix the schedule. Yes, the clerical lead is the person who does all the scheduling, including inputting the main clinic data into the system.
Nevertheless, after 10 minutes, I got the two step job done by calling the IT liaison at home, because the administration does not allow nursing to input appointments, as this is called "working below our license" (aka doing your job).
Thank goodness the liaison knows how to do a job, doesn't give excuses and really knows that the important thing is that we make sure the patient has an appointment so he can see the doctor and we all get paid.
Too bad the rest of you don't think the same way, instead of just passing the buck.
Sincerely not,
RehabRN
