Full moon fever

Oh, the natives are getting restless, and for a moment, I didn't know why. Ah, the full moon!  It was one of those days recently. Everything and nothing goes right.

One patient I follow is still ditching me for his/her monthly follow-up. Since I have to report to his/her provider re: progress, this makes things sticky. Try, try, again.

I am finally (maybe) getting resources to start a program I proposed earlier this year. Got clearance from the local committee and everything. If all goes as planned, the key pieces will fall into place next week. I'll still be sending prayer requests to my favorite nuns, monks, and old ladies, though. Working in this arena is rewarding, but endlessly frustrating with the amount of backtracking I have to do.

Thank goodness some of my folks still love me!

And speaking of the love, my next door neighbor and I found out our abstracts have been accepted to one of our favorite conferences.

The show WILL hit the road again, just in time for hurricane season, Labor Day and a family wedding. Why not have everything big happen in one week's time?

Stay tuned and enjoy your weekend! Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

More later...

Forever grateful

I am happy to be off work today, especially since I thought I was going to be wearing a cast on my dominant arm. Let's just say walking up hills and wearing certain footwear is hazardous. (I wasn't going far, so I thought I was immune). Nevertheless, after a quick trip for an x-ray and eval, I found out, I was scraped, sore and suffering from a really bad bone bruise between the bones of my arm.

I raise my glass today in honor of those who have come before us, who died and were disabled on the job to give honor to a hard day's work.

The honorable today includes all of you: nurses in the EDs, in the ORs, in the rehab units, in the clinics, in the every inpatient, outpatient, consultant and administrative role.

Your work is honorable and I salute you! Happy Labor Day wherever you are.

It's HOT!

Dear Summer:

I know it's not Labor Day yet, and the kids are back in school, but this 100+ degree temperature thing needs to go.

I finally got used to not freezing to death at the Hotel. Now my space is so cold I have to either 1) talk to patients in the hallway, if it's possible or 2) turn the air off and sweat while I talk to patients.

All this stuff about designing rooms for patients is nice, but once in a while, couldn't we get a universal design that works for EVERYONE?

I know I'll be waiting for the remodeling (that may never come) in my end of the Hotel. Here's hoping the HVAC folks can get it right.

Sincerely (only if you fix climate control),

Watching history take place

Some people have dreams they never let die.

If I had been Diana Nyad, I probably would have just chalked it up to nasty currents, sharks and hellacious jellyfish.

But, darn it all, she's out there swimming away and has almost made it.

Tag along on the internet ride and watch history happen like Bubba and I.

Stay tuned...the box jellies are out!

Crisis averted

Bubba will be playing fall sports since we managed to get to LocalSportingGoodsShop before it closed for Labor Day.

Hallelujah! At least, I won't be doing a bunch of online shopping with a rascally tween boy. (And I thought only girls were picky...oh my!)

Stay tuned...who knows what the week will bring.

Labor day weekend

Well, the last, official holiday weekend of summer is finally here. It doesn't feel like it though.

The temperatures are still hot enough for Bubba to jump in Mr. Smith's pool down the road, and too hot to let WildDog lounge in the grass, lying in wait for the mailman.

I've been busy doing all the stuff I didn't get done yet since I got back from the conference. Labor Day really is a laboring holiday for me.

Enjoy your Labor Day whether you labor on the floor or at home. Will raise my cold, frosty glass for you all! Cheers.

Stay tuned!

Laboring away

I'm not at the Hotel, but at the RehabRN household, Dahey, Bubba and I are doing lots of oddball stuff we've had on hold. Trimming bushes, sorting books, you name it.

Don't fret though, we're taking lots of breaks in between, enjoying the beautiful weather here in RehabLand.

And for all my friends laboring away today with your patients, the Labor Day songs here are for you.

My favorite is below, because it talks about working hard, in crazy circumstances, as many of  you are doing today.

"'Cause it's hard to keep a good man (or woman) down!"

Happy Labor Day

"The man who doesn't relax and hoot a few hoots voluntarily, now and then, is in great danger of hooting hoots and standing on his head for the edification of the pathologist and trained nurse, a little later on."  ~Elbert Hubbard

Hope you're not having too much hooting and hollering today...unless of course you want it!

Ah, weekend!

Without labor nothing prospers.  ~Sophocles

Just a thought for this weekend...will be prospering at a few gatherings. Hope you labor at something fun for a bit, too.

Happy Labor Day weekend

As one of the few, the proud, the folks who are off this Labor Day weekend, I celebrate by doing my homework for class and all sort of other stuff I wouldn't normally do while working.

I found this Labor Day quote below by H.L. Mencken here:

The only liberty an inferior man really cherishes is the liberty to quit work, stretch out in the sun, and scratch himself. ~H.L. Mencken

Enjoy your weekend wherever you are, whatever you choose to do!

A good one

Sometimes you need a good laugh...especially when you wake up itching and sneezing...again. Alas, ragweed season seems to be in full bloom in our neck of the woods.

Head Nurse has this simple test for all you nurses out there, so if you don't have to labor today on Labor Day like me, (even if you do) check it out.
